Heart of Our Camp Project
Dear Camp Family,
I hope you all are having a wonderful year! I wanted to send out a note about a fundraising project we are undertaking for CER, the “Heart of our Camp Project”. We are trying to raise money to purchase an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for Camp. AEDs are emergency medical tools used in the event of a cardiac emergency. They deliver a shock to a person if their heart is in need of electricity to restore a normal heart rhythm. Because of how effective they are at saving lives, AEDs are becoming increasingly widespread in schools, gyms, malls, hospitals, homes, businesses and summer camps.
Why does Camp Eagle Ridge need an Automated External Defibrillator?
In general, children are at less of a risk for these types of cardiac emergencies than adults or the elderly. However, children become more susceptible to the risk when they are participating in physical activities, which we do every day at CER. The critical window for the use of an AED is the first five minutes after a person collapses. Every minute a person suffering from ventricular fibrillation (the cardiac emergency that AEDs are designed to correct) goes without an AED represents a ten percent drop in effectiveness of the device. If one is available on-site, instead of needing to wait for an ambulance, the chances of survival are much higher. All CER staff members are trained every summer in CPR and AED use, as well as First Aid.
Fortunately, in recent years, advances in technology have brought the price of AEDs down significantly. However, they are still a significant investment. In the interest of keeping tuition prices low, we have decided not to put this cost into the Camp’s budget. Instead, we are asking our camp families, alumni, and friends to help us raise the money needed for one of these machines.
What do we need from you?
Our goal is to get 30 donations of $50 from whoever would like to support our cause. In return, you will be recognized for your generosity by having your name, your camper’s name, your business’ name, or your family’s name engraved on a mounting with all the other donor names. This mounting will be the home of our new lifesaving device. It will be stored in a prominent place in camp, so it is easily accessible in the event of an emergency. If our donations surpass our immediate need, all surplus funds will be set aside in our Camp Development Fund to help us with future important purchases like this one.
To make a donation, simply make a check for $50 out to “Camp Eagle Ridge”, and include the exact spelling of the person, family, or organization you would like to have engraved on our AED mounting. If requested, we will issue a receipt, however since we are not a non-profit organization, these donations are not tax-deductible.
Send your check to:

We’ll keep you informed of our progress, and let you know when we reach our goal! Join us in becoming a donor, and help keep the heart of our camp beating strong.
Sincerely,
Mac Jaehnert
